2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Sweden 0 - Ontario 5

TEICHMANN PERFECT AGAIN AS ONTARIO TOPS SWEDEN

TIMMINS, Ont. – He may have been the back-up when the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge began, but Tyson Teichmann appears to have taken a firm grasp on Ontario’s No. 1 job.

Teichmann made 22 saves for his second-consecutive shutout, lowering his goals against average to a miniscule 0.38, as Ontario blanked Sweden 5-0 on Friday night. Since replacing Chris Festarini after one period of Ontario’s tournament-opening 5-3 loss to Finland, Teichmann has allowed just one goal in 160 minutes of action.

Daniel Catenacci and Lucas Lessio had a goal and an assist each for Ontario (2-1), which got goals from five different players and points from 11 in getting back into the race for one of the top two spots in Group A and a spot in the semifinals.

Leading 1-0 after 20 minutes on Barclay Goodrow’s power play goal, Ontario pushed that lead to four after two on goals from Lessio, Zack Mitchell and Matthew Puempel, the last two of which also came with the man advantage. Catenacci rounded out the scoring with a spectacular shorthanded effort in the third period.

Marcus Due-Boje made 26 saves between the pipes for Sweden (2-1) in his first appearance of the tournament. A win for the Swedes would have assured them a semifinal spot in their return to the U17s after a 13-year absence.
