2004 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Ontario 5 – Pacific 2

The Gold Medal Final was another rematch from the round robin between the two power house teams from the B pool. After a hard fought 5-5 tie in the round robin, this game looked to be another classic. Team Ontario opened the scoring in the first on a power-play goal by Andrew Cogliano. Team Pacific responded with a goal by Brock Bradford while on a 5-3 power-play. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie, with the two teams trading power play goals. Team Ontario broke the deadlock when Kyle Lamb scored a power-play goal just 50 seconds into the second period. Team Ontario widened the gap with goals by Kevin Baker and Cal Clutterbuck to increase its lead to 4-1. Team Pacific came back from 4-0 down versus Team Ontario in the 5-5 round robin game, but they were not able to pull off the same heroics in this one.. Team Ontario added a power-play goal in the third on a goal by Kyle Lamb, his second of the night. Team Pacific’s Kris Russell scored a short handed goal with just under 5 minutes remaining, but it was too little too late. Andrew Cogliano had 1 goal and 2 assists, and Patrick McNeill added three assists for Team Ontario in the 5-2 win. Ontario captures its 4th Gold Medal since the tournaments inception in 1995. Team Pacific lost its third consecutive gold medal game to capture the Silver. Player of the game honours went to Kyle Lamb for Team Ontario while Brock Bradford took home the award for Team Pacific. This game set a tournament record for highest ever attendance with 6,247, which was a sell-out at Mile One Arena.
