SOUKAS SCORES GAME-WINNER AS BANFF DOWNS EDGE – MAROON 6-3

CALGARY, Alta. – Yannis Soukas and Alex Przibislawszky-Bodo each scored one goal and added two assists as the Banff Hockey Academy grabbed their first win at the World Sport School Challenge, defeating Edge School – Maroon by a score of 6-3 in Varsity Division play on Sunday.

Jonas Gordon and Przibislawszky-Bodo scored two early power-play goals to give Banff a 2-0 lead just 6:26 into the opening period. Kyler Magus responded for Edge – Maroon, however Turks and Caicos native, Oliver Wolf restored the two-goal lead for Banff, giving them a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.

John Jamieson pulled Edge – Maroon within one just 2:49 into the middle stanza, but Banff pulled away with three unanswered goals from Anders Flotten, Soukas and Marc Janisch. Magus netted his second of the game for Edge – Maroon with 5:31 left in the frame, making it 6-3 Banff after two periods.

Banff goaltender Michael Lenko turned away all 16 shots he faced in the third period, giving him 28 saves in the game, as the two teams went scoreless in the third period.

With the win, the Banff Hockey Academy will finish in fifth place in the Varsity Division and will take on the Swiss International Sports and Education Center in the quarter-finals on Monday. SISEC defeated Banff by a score of 4-1 on Day 2. Edge – Maroon finishes in the sixth spot and has a date with the Okanagan Hockey Academy in a quarter-final game to kick off Day 4, Okanagan bested Edge Maroon 5-1 on Saturday.
