FRANZ GRABS FOUR POINTS, MCNAIR GETS HAT TRICK IN 6-3 EDGE SCHOOL WIN OVER GERMANY

CALGARY, Alta. – Logan Franz scored a goal and added three assists, Matt McNair blasted home three goals and Jeremy McNeil picked up three assists as a four-goal second period powered Edge School past Germany 6-2 in Prep Division play of the World Sport School Challenge on Friday.

Maurice Keil gave Germany a quick 1-0 lead just 1:19 after the opening faceoff; however Edge School would bounce right back and even the score at 1-1 on a goal from McNair. Germany would regain the lead late in the first period as Tobias Kircher took an Andreas Eder pass and found the back of the net to give Germany a 2-0 lead after the opening frame.

It was all Edge School the rest of the way, exploding for four goals in the second period by Gordon Walters, Franz, Taro Hirose and McNair to give them a 5-2 lead after 40 minutes.

Edge School didn’t let up in the third period as McNair would score his third goal of the game early in the frame to make it 6-2. Germany would add one more, as Maxi Kammerer, who also added one assist in the loss, would make it 6-3 with less than six minutes left in the game.

Edge School will look to carry over some momentum against Shattuck-St. Mary’s in the final WSSC game on Saturday, while in the first Prep Division game of Day 2; Germany will look to enter the win column against Czech Republic, who is coming off a 5-1 opening day win over the Okanagan Hockey Academy.
