EIGHT POWER PLAY GOALS LEAD SHATTUCK TO QUARTER-FINAL ROUT

CALGARY, Alta. – Hunter Fejes scored a hat trick to lead a balanced offence as Shattuck-St. Mary’s advanced to the semifinals at the 2011 World Sport School Challenge with a 12-0 rout of Pursuit of Excellence on Thursday night.

The win moves Shattuck into Friday’s early semifinal against Slovakia (1:30 p.m. MT) and relegates POE to Friday’s fifth-place game (1:30 p.m MT) against Okanagan Hockey Academy in an all-B.C. match-up.

The Sabres were led by their power play, which converted eight times in 10 chances, including four-for-four in the second period alone.

Tyler Vesel opened the scoring for Shattuck just shy of the six-minute mark of the first period, the first of four goals in less than 10 minutes that gave the Faribault, Minn., school a commanding lead through one period.

Fejes completed his hat trick just 95 seconds into the second period before Willie Raskob, Nick Petrella, Brody Decker and Noah Henry all scored with the man advantage, putting Shattuck up by three field goals after 40 minutes.

With the outcome never in doubt, Shattuck added another three goals in the third period, including Henry’s second, to put the finishing touches on the largest win of this year’s tournament.

Anthony Brodeur recorded his second win in as many starts, making 18 saves, while the team in front of him peppered POE goaltenders Payton Lee and Matt Mitchell with 71 shots.
