LEHKONEN, TANUS HAVE FIVE POINTS EACH, FINNS HAMMER OHA

CALGARY, Alta. – Finland continued its offensive roll Tuesday at the 2011 World Sport School Challenge, getting five points each from Artturi Lehkonen and Jonatan Tanus as is steamrolled Okanagan Hockey Academy 11-1.

The Finns are the lone unbeaten team through two days, and have outscored its opposition 19-2.

Okanagan Hockey Academy came out with the physical edge, highlighted by a crushing hit from Spencer Morse on Tani Suuronen, but the Finns opened up a big lead early, taking a 3-0 advantage to the dressing room after 20 minutes on goals from Joonas Lyytinen, Aleksi Mustonen and Lehkonen.

Finland’s speed and superior puck moving skills provided Okanagan with no answer as the Canadian side was drawn into multiple penalties in the second period. Lehkonen and Tanus put on a clinic, recording three and four points, respectively, in the middle frame as the Finns opened up a 7-0 lead through 40 minutes, outshooting OHA 34-9.

The final period was more of the same as Lehkonen added another goal early in the frame to cap off his four-goal night. The Finns scored the game’s first 10 goals before Okanagan’s Paulsen Lautard ended Ville Husso’s shutout bid late. Aleksi Ainali rounded out the scoring for Finland in the final minute.

Finland will look to wrap up a perfect preliminary round when it meets Shattuck-St. Mary’s in a marquee match-up Wednesday (5 p.m. MT), while OHA will look to bounce back against the Edge School (5 p.m. MT).
