Streetsville Derbys (HOST) 2 - Yorkton Terriers (WEST) 1 Round Robin By HockeyCanada.ca In case there were still doubters after their 2-0 start at the 2006 RBC Royal Bank Cup, it is now official; The Streetsville Derbys are for real. The Derbys upset the No.1 ranked Yorkton Terries 2 -1 on Tuesday night to remain the only undefeated team in the tournament. Granted they needed superb goaltending to do beat Yorkton, the Derbys kept pace with the Terriers stride for stride and never looked out of place. Wilson was outstanding and made several highlight saves, of which the best was his diving glove save which denied Chad Nehring a sure goal. Streetsville player of the game put on the goaltending performance of the tournament to date and finished with 41 saves. The game winner came of a booming shot from the point. With the man advantage, Dan Fraser passed it back to the point and Scott Russel wasted no time blasting a shot high past Brent Bothwell. Yorkton opened the scoring struck early, just two minutes in, 11 won the draw back to 23 who fired a puck past Wilson. The Derby’s first goal came off a turnover deep in Yorkton’s zone. A failed clearing attempt by a Yorkton defenceman went straight on the stick of Sean Fontyn who took a shot that was re-directed straight to Steve Ellison who was parked beside the night and put it into the empty cage. Yorkton ran into some serious injury trouble throughout the game; First, forward Dion Campbell was helped off the ice mid-way through the second period with an upper body injury after an open ice hit in front of the Derbys net and did not return. Late in the third, Dustin Nehring was drilled in the boards and lay on the ice for several minutes before making his way back to the bench. Then with 1:17 remaining in the third, 14 needed help leaving the ice after an apparent upper body injury. After breezing through the SIJHL Championship and winning the Anavet Cup with relative ease, the Terriers find themselves in an unusual position; losers of two straight. The Terriers are now in a must win situation when they face Fort William on Thursday afternoon. A loss Thursday, may spell the end of their RBC Royal Bank Cup aspirations.
